Paul Heaton
One of the UK's most enduring talents, Paul Heaton is responsible for the formation of two of the country's finest bands in The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, both of which provided the 80s, 90s and early noughties with some of their finest pop moments.
The songs that he wrote for those bands, in particular the Beautiful South were bittersweet, often darkly amusing tales that touched the soul and went against the usual, expected pop conventions.
Even before the Beautiful South sadly split last year due to "musical similarities", Paul Heaton had produced his first solo album under the moniker of Biscuit Boy and he returns in 2008 with his new band The Sound of Paul Heaton with a new album and extensive tour. His new sound mixes his trademark wit and intelligence with a stomping rockabilly sensibility that marries with his storytelling lyrics perfectly to produce a genuinely affecting collection of songs.
