Annie Mac

Born and bred in Dublin to a family immersed in musicality, Annie left home at 17 to attend Queens University in Belfast, where she was bitten by the clubbing bug after visiting the city’s legendary Shine club nights.

Inspired to purchase her first set of decks, Annie taught herself to mix using old funk and soul records bought from local charity shops and it wasn’
t long before she made the move to London and eventually found herself working as a broadcasting assistant at Radio 1.  Impressed by her natural flair and sheer determination Annie was soon filling in for the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs on her Breezeblock show.

In 2004 Annie got her big break hosting her own show, The Mash Up.
Originally on Thursday nights, it’s now at the heart of the stations weekend dance schedule showcasing an eclectic mix of break driven dance music that she so brilliantly demonstrated when she put together her A-Z compilation for our own Sunday Best Recordings.

As a club DJ Annie’s star is not so much on the rise as shining brightly down on all before her as she has become on of the most popular DJs in the country, guaranteeing a party wherever she plays as her style dictates big tunes with big beats and big basslines, she is sure to go down a storm as this year’s Bestival.
